Japan Food Photos
Here are pics from Kyoto's Nishiki Market and Daimaru department store food hall; and from Mount Koya, where we spent the night in a Zen temple and tried shojin ryori, vegetarian Buddhist cuisine...
And here's Tokyo. We had a long lunch at Tofuya Ukai, a restaurant that specializes in all things tofu.
If you want captions and bigger photos, the albums are posted on the right sidebar.

Japan's got everything!
how could i have missed this!!?!
Can I ask how your Tsukiji market tour guide was, and if it was expensive? I went with these guys in 2006 and it was fantastic, but pricey.
Actually, it wasn't a tour of Tsukiji - it was a tour of two department store food hall fish departments in Shibuya! I forget the names of the stores, but they had huge selections of fish and everything else.
The tour was led by Elizabeth Andoh, the author of Washoku. She was a fantastic guide. I will tell you that the tour itself was geared towards expats living in Japan who need help figuring out the foods that are available in their local shops, but any food person would get a kick out of attending. She does many other tours - I think mine was around $45 for 2 hours? You can check out her site here:
