Grandma Norma's Green Beans with Bacon

Cindy's note: I had these for the first time on Christmas at my sister Lori's house. In my opinion, there are few things on earth that are not improved by the addition of bacon.

Makes 8-10 servings

2 pounds green beans, strings and ends removed
1/2 pound bacon, cut into 1/4 inch slices
1 large onion, chopped
4 cloves garlic, chopped
olive oil
1/4 cup water

In a skillet, brown onion and garlic in a small amount of olive oil. Stir in green beans and water, then add bacon. Cover and simmer until green beans are tender, about 20 minutes. Salt and pepper to taste.
